The story of Artein - Gaelic for stone - is hewn from the landscape of both Scotland and Tuscany. Artein has many strong connections to rocks and the earth, from the ancient Cadboll Stone to the mineral-rich Tarlogie Springs.
Finealta is Gaelic for elegant, and its tale takes us back to the gilded age of the Belle Époque. Finealta created a sensation in all the finest places with its understated, peaty taste.
The tale of Sonnalta, Gaelic for 'generous', begins in the 1700's, with some well-travelled grape seeds that created the Vinos Generosis vineyards. We follow the wine-casks from these vineyards as they travel thousands of miles for their part in the story.
Pedro Ximenez was a soldier who served under Charles V of Spain. He brought the PX grape seeds into Spain on his return from Rhine.
Long before Glenmorangie, long before Scotland, in fact - the Picts ruled. They carved the Cadboll Stone full of ancient symbols.
In a dusty old ledger a recipe was discovered that dated back to 1903. It was for Finealta.
The Tarlogie Spring bubbles near the Glenmorangie distillery.
The hot climate of Jerez de la Frontera is ideal for growing grapes. Sherry from PX grapes is deeper, richer and sweeter than other sherries.
The subtle taste of Finealta is buried in the peat, which fired the kilns.
In the late nineteenth century PX wines almost disappeared. They became very rare and collectors paid a great deal for them at auctions.
The Super Tuscan vines force their roots deep into the rocky Tuscan hills to find nourishment, giving the grapes a full, intense flavour.
Finealta was the whisky of choice in many establishments in the early 1900s.
Sonnalta unites the traditions of the finest Scottish whisky with classic Spanish winemaking.
